UPD petition of protest

Here is the info from Jim Bradley, county councilmen, on how to file a petition of protest. I have told many of you,  I would put this up when I recieved it, so here it is.

Dear Riverton City Resident:

Thank you again for attending the Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area public hearing on Tuesday in Riverton City. I enjoyed the opportunity to hear from you and talk with you. I appreciated the thoughtful nature of your comments and questions and especially want to thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to attend the meeting and be involved in decisions regarding your community.

My staff is still in the process of pulling together specific responses to the questions and concerns raised. We will mail and e-mail information to you early next week and we will post responses on the SLVLESA website at www.slvlesa.org.

However, I wanted to quickly get the state statute regarding the annexation protest to you. You can access the relevant code at:

As was mentioned at the hearing, State law allows a minimum of a 30-day protest period from the date of the public hearing. However, as outlined in my earlier letter to you, we will consider all protests received by November 30, 2011. Inasmuch as we need to verify and certify all protests received, please send them at your earliest convenience, but we must receive them by November 30.

When we began creation of the SLVLESA in 2007 we did so expressly to allow local jurisdictions to join together to create a stable, cost efficient way to pay for consolidated police services. The objective of the Service Area is to fund high quality law enforcement services at the lowest cost possible while allowing communities to maintain local control. We look forward to the prospect of joining with Riverton City if the pending annexation is successful.

Again, I will be sending more follow up information to you early next week, but wanted to get this initial information to you at this time.

Thank you again for attending the public hearing.

Respectfully,

Jim Bradley
SLVLESA Chair and
Salt Lake County Council Member At-Large
